Dre Perez was born Deandre Martez Perez on March 7, 1992 in Kansas City, Missouri. His mother, Gladys Simmons was forced to raise Dre as a single parent after his father, Juan Perez left when Dre was just 2 years old. His childhood was very unstable. Growing up in the inner city where drugs and crime were at an all time high, Dre along with his 8 brothers and sisters dealt with abuse and moved around a lot due to their mothers constant struggle with employment and drug use.
Music always played a big role in Dre’s life with his family. His biggest influence was his Uncle, E. Simmons. Mr. Simmons moved from Kansas City to Oakland to pursue his own music dreams. He moved back to Kansas City when Dre was 8, which was the spark to the beginning of Dre’s music career. Master P and No Limit Records inspired Dre to form his own group with his cousin and brother called “Tank Dogs”. At the age of 13, Dre decided to take his music more serious after his brother-in-law started a record label titled: Married To Tha Game, Ent. However, Dre struggled to find a balance between school and music, ultimately making the decision to give music a break. On August 28, 2007, when Dre was just 14, his mother suddenly passed away due to a brain illness. This is when things took a turn for the worse for Dre. His only dream was to become a successful music artist and provide a better life for his mother. To cope with the pain, Dre turned to recreational drug use and began to make feel good music. His style of music was inspired by artist like Bob Marley, Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg and 2Pac.
When Dre’s son was born on September 16, 2012, it gave him the motivation he needed to pursue his music career on a more serious level. In Dre’s mind, his son growing up the way he did was not an option. Two years later, in 2014, Dre joined Habitual Hustla, Ent. And is scheduled to release his 1st project on April 14, 2016, titled: Thatz On Me.
