After being arrested alongside 21 Savage on Feb. 3, Young Nudy has finally been released from DeKalb County Jail in Atlanta. XXL confirmed with the jail that the rapper was released on Wed., Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. EST.
As previously reported, Nudy and 21 Savage were both arrested at the same time in Atlanta earlier this month. Police were reportedly conducting a sting targeting Nudy and other associates when they nabbed both rappers and two other men. Nudy was booked on gang and assault charges stemming from a 2017 incident. Nudy was granted $100,000 bond on Tuesday. ICE eventually detained 21 Savage and accused him of being an illegal immigrant from the U.K.
Nudy’s attorney, W. Scott Smith, has proclaimed his innocence from the jump, telling the Atlanta Journal Constitution, “We believe that Young Nudy is innocent and this is a case of mistaken identity. Young Nudy’s legal team is working closely with law enforcement to ensure this case does not get blown out of proportion.”
The “A Lot” rapper’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, insists his client was targeted. “Yes, and we believe honestly that he was targeted of course like they said,” Spiro said. “And part of the reason, we think, is because he’s both a celebrity and they can use this as a way to send a message and also perhaps because of his music.”
21 Savage’s fight to stay in the States is not over. He still has to face a court hearing to determine if he will be deported.
