Mac Miller Recorded Entire Album With Madlib Before Death – XXL

Since the untimely death of Mac Miller in September 2018, many fans have wondered if there’s any music he left behind. Well, apparently, Mac recorded a lot of material before his passing, and a sizable chunk of those tracks could be on an unreleased LP he reportedly recorded with producer Madlib.

Speaking with DJ Booth, producer Thelonious Martin, who recorded the song “Guidelines” with Mac Miller, revealed that the late Pittsburgh, Pa., rhymer recorded a full album with notable hip-hop producer Madlib.

“When we was working on ‘Guidelines,’ he was always excited about all these other songs. He had this Madlib album, called Maclib,” he revealed today (Feb. 20). “I opened for Madlib in Chicago last summer, at Pitchfork. So I’m opening for Madlib, and about 15, 20 minutes left in my set, Madlib pulls up. Pete Rock walks up as well.”

Martin continues, “So I’m trying to focus and DJ, and Madlib gets on and 15 minutes into his set he just randomly plays a Mac Miller joint,” he continued. “And I turn to him, I’m like, ‘There’s more of these, right?’ He’s said, ‘Oh, yeah, there’s a whole album. Maclib.’ What! What! He just kept moving on with his DJ set. If Madlib decides to bless the world with that project, he should.”

Madlib is a well-respected producer who has worked with several big-name rap stars including the late J Dilla, Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Ghostface Killah, MF Doom, Anderson .Paak and more. So you know this Maclib album is going to be fire. Hopefully, Madlib will bless us with this collaborative project.

Mac Miller’s last album Swimming was released in 2018 and garnered a Best Rap Album nomination for the 2019 Grammy Awards.
