Netflix Officially Cancels Last Two Marvel Shows in 'The Punisher' and 'Jessica Jones'

Marvel’s The Punisher has been canceled after two seasons, and Jessica Jones will be canceled following its third.

Deadline broke the news about The Punisher’s cancellation, receiving a quote from Netflix saying “Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix.

After canceling DaredevilLuke Cage and Iron Fist, it wasn’t too far fetched to believe The Punisher and Jessica Jones wouldn’t follow the same faith.

It’s no secret that The Punisher was on the bubble once the Marvel dominoes started to fall at Netflix, but that didn’t stop series showrunner Steve Lightfoot from plotting out the third season.

Fans started speculating about the vigilante’s fate this morning after star Jon Bernthal took to social media in what appeared to be a farewell message to Frank Castle.

Marvel’s Jeph Loeb also commented on these cancellations in a letter to fans, saying “On behalf of everyone at Marvel Television, we couldn’t be more proud or more grateful to our audience. Our Network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters… but you know Marvel better than that. As Matthew Murdock’s Dad once said, ‘The measure of a man is not how he gets knocked to the mat, it’s how he gets back up.’”

Additionally, the Loeb-run Marvel TV  inked a four-series and one special deal with the soon-to-be Disney dominated Hulu on February 11 that will surely become the new focus of the comic giant’s small screen division.

Marvel recently announced a slate of animated shows, featuring characters such as Tigra, Howard the Duck, Dazzler, and MODOK, are coming to Hulu. And like Netflix’s shows, they will all culminate in a team-up series, but instead of The Defenders, they’re The Offenders.
