21 Savage Was Supposed to Perform at 2019 Grammys Before Arrest – XXL

Before he was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Atlanta  Sunday morning (Feb. 3), 21 Savage was scheduled to perform at the upcoming 2019 Grammy Awards.

Earlier today (Feb. 7), an insider close to Post Malone’s camp revealed to Rolling Stone that 21 and Posty were scheduled to perform their Grammy-nominated single “Rockstar” as part of a larger medley that also included a separate performance with Red Hot Chili Peppers.

As it stands now Post and the RHCP collaborative performance will go on as scheduled. There’s no word on what the pair will actually perform on the show.

This news comes as a police report revealed that cops found a Glock with an extended magazine inside the glove compartment of the Dodge Challenger the rapper was riding in during his arrest. From there, the 26-year-old artist was arrested by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). It’s unknown how ICE got involved with 21’s arrest.

Nevertheless, one of the 21’s lawyers, Brian Steel, told TMZ that neither the weapon nor the car belong to the rapper. He wouldn’t provide further details as to who owned the car or the gun.

21 is still locked up under ICE custody. Jay-Z has hired attorney Alex Spiro to work specifically on Savage’s immigration case. The Roc Nation mogul calls the situation “an absolute travesty.”

“In addition to being a successful recording artist, Savage deserves to be reunited with his children immediately,” he said in a statement, adding what 21’s legal team has pointed out previously that the rapper’s U Visa application has been pending for years.

Mr. Spiro, in a statement, also vowed to help get 21 Savage out of jail. “We are not going to stop until he is released, bonded out or in front of a judge,” he told TMZ. “What we have here is someone who overstayed their Visa with an application pending for four years—not a convicted criminal that needs to be detained and removed but, by all accounts a wonderful person, father, and entertainer who has a marijuana offense which was vacated and sealed.”
