21 Savage Says Drake Needs More Respect for Helping New Artist – XXL

Drake has had a knack for jumping on songs from up-and-coming artists and helping the tracks surge in popularity. Like he’s recently done with BlocBoy JB’s “Look Alive” and Lil Baby’s “Yes Indeed,” Drizzy has helped the new rappers find success, but 21 Savage believes the Toronto MC deserves more respect.

In an interview with GQ published on Wednesday (June 27), the “Bank Account” rapper was asked about who he looks up to in the hip-hop world. While 21 doesn’t officially look up to any rappers, he praised Drizzy as a “geniune-ass good-hearted person.”

“He did a lot of shit he didn’t have to do,” 21 Savage said. “He do a lot of shit for up-and-coming rappers, period. I don’t think he get his respect for that. Every fuckin’ year, he pull a new artist up. Ain’t no other artist on his level do that shit.”

The Atlanta rapper knows firsthand how getting the Drake co-sign can be beneficial for a rising hip-hop artist, as he was featured on Drizzy’s “Sneakin‘” in 2016, which reached No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 8 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart.

21 Savage also credited Drake’s good-hearted nature as the reason why the rapper was the only person who bought him something for his birthday. “Nah, these niggas some hoes,” 21 said of people in the rap world. “But Drake brought me [a Ferrari 488] for my birthday to ride around L.A. He the only one that got me something for my birthday that year.”
