The brutal murder of a 15-year-old child in the Bronx has hit close to home for Cardi B, who is now donating a large sum of money to the family of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz.
According to a June 25 report from the Daily Mail, the Bronx-native gave $8,000 to the family’s GoFundMe campaign, after the boy was stabbed to death outside of a Bronx bodega. The donation on the GoFundMe page appears under Cardi B’s real name, Belcalis Almanzar, and was donated on Sunday (June 24).
The hashtag “JusticeForJunior” had been trending on social media over the weekend and the “Bodak Yellow” rapper posted about Guzman-Feliz’s murder on Instagram, sharing a photo of the child with his mother, as well as a video of the mother thanking Cardi for the donation.
In an Instagram caption that has been translated from Spanish, the “Girls” artist told Guzman-Feliz’s mother that she will soon feel more protected because she will feel her son’s spirit with her. The rapper also wished peace for the family and promoted the GoFundMe account.
Guzman-Feliz was killed on June 20 after five members of the Trinitarios gang dragged the child out of a bodega in a case of mistaken identity. According to reports, the suspects believed Guzman-Feliz was the person who made a homemade sex video with one of their family members.
After being dragged out of the bodega, the five attackers held the boy down, hacking and stabbing him with a machete and a knife. Bleeding from his neck, Guzman-Feliz was able to run toward St. Barnabas Hospital but collapsed just a few feet away.
Police have since arrested the five men connected to the murder and one of the suspects, 19-year-old Kevin Alvarez, has been charged with second-degree murder and gang assault, CBS New York reports.
