Brockhampton is minus one voice, after parting ways with original member, Ameer Vann, following accusations of sexual misconduct levied against the artist earlier this month.
The group released a statement about the matter on Twitter, on Sunday (May 27). “Ameer is no longer in Brockhampton,” the statement starts. “We want to sincerely apologize to the victims affected by Ameer’s actions. We were lied to, and we are sorry for not speaking up sooner. We do not tolerate abuse of any kind. This is not a solution to their suffering, but we hope this is a step in the right direction.”
The group has decided to prematurely end their tour. “We are going to cancel the remaining dates on our current U.S. tour to go home and regroup,” the statement concludes.
The booting stems from allegations of sexual misconduct made two weeks ago by several woman. Singer Rhett Rowas, who says she dated Vann, also cosigned the claims. “I’m in complete shock that this is finally coming to light, but I dated him and can confirm that Ameer Vann of Brockhampton is emotional manipulative and mentally abusive. #MeToo,” she wrote on Twitter.
For his side, Ameer denied the claims on Twitter a few weeks ago. “Although my behavior has been selfish, childish, and unkind, I have never criminally harmed anyone or disrespected their boundaries,” he posted. “I have never had relations with a minor or violated anybody’s consent.”
Brockhampton member Kevin Abstract addressed the issue on Instagram Live on Wednesday (May 23). “I don’t agree with anything Ameer has admitted to,” he said. “And I’ve talked with him about that, and I’ve talked to people. And he’s been getting help like over the past year.”
Kev also revealed the group’s new album, Puppy, slated for release this summer, could be pushed back. The group, also made up of Matt Champion, Merlyn Wood, Dom McLennon, Joba and Bearface, signed a lucrative deal with RCA back in March.
