Not too much has been documented about Drake‘s relationship with J. Cole since the two of them were spotted buying copies of Cole’s second LP, Born Sinner, five years ago. Well, apparently the two of them are still cool—cool enough to for Drizzy to joke about Cole’s beating a Spotify streaming record a few weeks back.
In a snippet of a new interview with veteran media personality Angie Martinez, Cole speaks a bit about addiction, new music and his new album. In one part of the conversation, which is said to stretch 90 minutes, Cole recounts the moment the Toronto rapper reached out to him after either Cole’s KOD title track or KOD itself broke one of Spotify’s records on April 23.
“Yeah he text me and said I hate you,” Cole said. Based on a bit we heard from the conversation, Cole could be speaking on the moment that “KOD” broke the one-day Spotify streaming record. It appears more likely that Cole is speaking on KOD itself breaking one-day streaming records for Apple Music and Spotify.
Considering just how many records Drizzy’s broken, it’s almost hard to remember when exactly he broke one of Spotify’s. As far as the song Spotify record goes, the answer is, of course, “God’s Plan.” As far as the album side of things, KOD is responsible for breaking Drizzy’s Views record for most streams in a week. That one was set on May 8, 2016. Either way, Drizzy let Cole hear about it.
