J. Cole's "Middle Child" Is First 2019 Song to Go Multiplatinum – XXL

J. Cole is having an incredible year so far. As fans patiently wait for his highly anticipated Revenge of the Dreamers III compilation album featuring artists on the Dreamville label, he recently scored a major achievement of his own.

On Friday (April 12), the Recording Industry Association of America announced on their Twitter account that J. Cole’s “Middle Child” is the first song to go multiplatinum in 2019. Released in January, the track, which features the North Carolina rhymer spitting tough bars over a T-Minus-produced beat, is now certified double platinum (2 million copies sold).

In addition to his RIAA achievement, the XXL Spring 2019 cover star is working on building his Dreamville label into a rap powerhouse. “We just a new and unique incarnation…hopefully, we add to the great lineage of rap labels,” Cole explained.

J. Cole is also putting in time for his solo ventures. “Me personally, I’m working on a few things,” he explained. “I’m trying to focus on them one at a time, but sometimes they spill over. I don’t know if they all going to come out in 2019, but I’m working. I just plan on being more active. More features. More music. Whether it’s an album or loosies. I plan on having a really good year.”
