Juice Wrld's 'Death Race for Love' Hits No. 1 on Billboard 200 – XXL

Juice Wrld has put hip-hop back in the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart as his new album Death Race for Love has debuted at No. 1 on this week’s rankings.

Juice had an impressive outing for his first week. He moved 165,00 equivalent album units with 43,000 of the total coming from traditional album sales. The album logged the biggest streaming week for a hip-hop or R&B project in 2019.

Death Race for Love features Young Thug and production from the likes of Boi-1da, Hit-Boy, No I.D., Cardo and frequent collaborator Nick Mira. Juice, who has a penchant for freestyling, recently revealed he freestyled all the songs on the album.

“I don’t need anyone to right shit for me I freestyled my whole album by my mf self not knocking any writers or artist who have them but I just can’t sit here and not get the credit I deserve,” he recently wrote on Twitter. “With that bring said ..I FREESTYLED FAST FUCK I LOOK LIKE.”

The ascendant rhymer is on a roll. This win follows the success of the Chicago artist’s debut solo album Goodbye & Good Riddance. Released last March, it dropped to modest numbers and debuted No. 15 on the Billboard 200 with 39,000 equivalent album units. It was spearheaded by the platinum single “Lucid Dreams,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 but was unable to unseat Maroon 5 and Cardi B’s smash “Girls Like You.” GB&GR reached platinum status last December.

Other hip-hop artists in the top 10 of this week’s chart include A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s Hoodie SZN (No. 6), Post Malone’s Beerbongs & Bentleys (No. 7), Gunna’s Drip or Drown 2 (No. 8), Drake’s Scorpion (No. 9) and Travis Scott’s Astroworld (No. 10).
