Lil Dicky is coming to a small screen near you. According to a report Deadline posted Wednesday (Feb. 27), FX has officially given the green light for the 2016 XXL Freshman‘s television pilot and picked up the entire series.
The half-hour comedy, which remains unnamed as of press time, is executive-produced by Dicky’s fellow Philly native Kevin Hart and Dicky’s manager, Scooter Braun. It was created in partnership with The League creator, Jeff Schaffer.
It would appear that the series is loosely based on Dicky’s real life experiences. According to Deadline, the show “centers on a suburban neurotic man in his late 20s who has convinced himself that he’s destined to be one of the best rappers of all time. Now he must convince his closest friends, because with their help, he might actually convince the world.”
Naturally, Dicky is quite excited about the new venture.
“I’m so thankful for everyone who made this possible, it really is what I’ve been dreaming about since I was a kid,” he told Deadline. “I love making people laugh, it’s my favorite thing ever. And even though I’m still fully in love with and committed to my career as a rapper, I’m excited to write jokes that don’t need to rhyme every time. Ugh, that rhymed.”
